Many of us have heard about it yet we just look for other choices, a very common trait in this day and age. But the bottom line is there could never be anything as good as Dental implants for those who are missing a single tooth or multiple teeth. The technology and the material associated with dental implants can only get better with time. Since not everyone is a candidate for dental implants, our only hope is to have future technology quash this and give every individual the opportunity to choose dental implants to get over tooth loss.
Until then, we at SameDay Dental Implants, suggest additional procedures for candidates who are typically not eligible for dental implants so that they too can reap the many benefits of dental implants and show off their Hollywood Smile without second-guessing themselves. One of the most important additional procedures that we perform is Bone Grafts, making everyone an eligible candidate for dental implants.
Dental implants
First of all, let us tell you what dental implants are and who makes a good candidate. Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed into the jawbone and gum tissue. A dental implant can either be a multiple implant to replace three of four missing teeth or single tooth implants that will replace just one missing tooth. Dental implants, are also able to support dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures, as well.
At our Dental Clinic best candidates for dental implants are individuals who are missing a tooth or multiple teeth. But what we insist on our patient is that they should have adequate bone tissue and gum tissue to support dental implants, or else it will not be successful. Additionally, patients should be in optimum health and should not be suffering from any dental health conditions that can make the surgery risky business!
We recommend bone grafting for patients who don’t have sufficient bone density to support dental implants. Bone grafting surgery is beneficial in building the proper bone density that is required for dental implants. So what we do is we use bone from a donor site or artificial bone tissue to build proper bone density. Bone grafting will take more time than anticipated to complete the overall procedure, but it’s a worthwhile investment.
Bone grafts
Patient who make good candidates for bone grafting are those who have insufficient bone density in the area where the tooth was extracted, which presents a gap. In order to be eligible for a bone graft, the patient must have good dental health. Our experienced dental team will check the patient’s medical and dental history first and then advise the patient about bone grafting.
We have a choice when we perform bone grafting, either we could use artificial bone grafts or donor bone from the patient. In the case of donor bone, the bone is usually taken from the hip bone of the patient. We will talk to the patient before finalizing the best option.
However, there are instances, of course, in rare cases, where our dental team deals with patients who are not good candidates for bone grafting or dental implants. Therefore, the next best alternative is to have dental bridges or dentures. We assure our patients that they will receive the best possible fit of these dental appliances, so that there is proper aesthetics of the smile and a more durable attachment of the dental bridge or denture.
