Dental implants in Dubai are a good option for individuals who have single or multiple missing teeth. The best news of all is that dental implants can support other dental restorations like dental bridges, crowns and dentures with the same level of stability and security, just like natural teeth, as the dental implants are placed with an artificial root.
A question we often get asked at the Dental Clinic in Dubai, by many patients is " Do I need surgery and Is it painful?". Dental implants are placed using oral surgery and patients should be informed and educated on what to expect pre and post dental implant surgery. Our team at SameDay Dental Implants would like to take some time to help patients, educate themselves on the basics of dental implants and the pre-operation prep work.
Pre-operation instructions
You must be wondering why are pre-operation prepping and instructions are so important? Well, we will tell you what we tell all our patients, the first step towards a successful dental implant procedure begins even before the surgery is carried out. Pre-operation prepping will help a patient has a complication free recovery, a quick healing and a comfortable procedure. When you meet with us, our team of experts will make sure to educate you and provide detailed instructions to follow before and after your surgery. Here are a few things we tell our patient to watch out for,
- Stop smoking and drinking alcohol – Tobacco and alcohol can weaken your body’s ability to heal. At our initial consultation, we check with the patient about these issues and ask them to stop smoking and drinking a few weeks before their implant surgery. Following surgery, patients should abstain from smoking as well until they have completely recovered. Drinking alcohol can resume once we have checked your dental implants and you have had a successful recovery.
- Carefully keep all prescriptions and make sure you purchase the prescribed medication prior to surgery – Covering all your bases before the surgery will give you more time to rest and recover. Prior to the surgery, we make sure to give the patient the prescription for medication, which can be purchased and is readily available at home once you go home after the surgery. This way you don’t have to worry about dropping in at the pharmacy or hunting around for medication after surgery, when you should be resting.
- Make sure to have your transportation to and from the dental clinic arranged – There are some patients who need multiple teeth implants, so we sedate them before the surgery. There are patient who only need a single dental implant but need sedation as well. Therefore, once the surgery is completed, the patient is not in a position to drive themselves home, so make sure to ask a family member or a friend to stay with you at the Clinic and bring you home. If you live alone, make sure to have someone stay with you for a couple of days.
- Housekeeping and home care – These are the last things on your mind when you go for surgery, but it’s also important to make sure you comeback after surgery to a clean home that is free of infection causing germs.
Post-Operation instructions
Be prepared to change your diet for a short time post dental implant surgery. We recommend that patients consider stocking up on food that are soft and easy to eat, the first few days after surgery. For instance, soft food like soup, soft bread and buns are the best option. Stay away from hard, crunchy food and tiny seeds.
Practice good oral care. Dental implants can be taken care of like your natural teeth with a regualr brushing and flossing routine. But make sure to check with us first when to start after your surgery has healed.
We hope that all this pre planning in the run-up to your dental implant surgery will be helpful and hope you will be flashing that Hollywood Smile in no time!
