      Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Safe, gentle, and minimally invasive extraction of wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last teeth to erupt, typically between the ages of 17 and 25. While some wisdom teeth erupt normally and cause no problems, others become impacted (stuck below the gum line) or erupt partially, leading to a number of issues. In such cases, wisdom tooth extraction by a qualified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon is often recommended.

Wisdom teeth extraction is not as invasive as you might think especially if it is performed by a Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. At SameDay Dental Clinic, our dental experts are trained in complex surgical extractions and use cutting-edge technology, ensuring a safe, pain-free, and comfortable experience for all our patients.

      Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Dubai

      Impacted vs. Simple Extraction

Simple or Surgical — What Type of Extraction Do You Need?

Not all wisdom tooth extractions are the same. The approach depends on how your tooth has erupted.

Surgical extraction is required when the tooth is impacted — meaning it's partially or fully trapped beneath the gum or bone. This is more common with wisdom teeth and is performed by our Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

In both cases, the procedure is carried out with precision and care to minimise discomfort and recovery time.

      When should wisdom
      teeth be removed?

Wisdom teeth that are completely erupted and functional, painless, cavity-free, and disease-free may not require extraction. Extractions are recommended in the following instances:

      Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons

      Dr. Costa Nicolopoulos

BDS cum laude, FFD (SA) MFOS
      Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

      Dr. Indraniil Roy

      BDS, MDS, MSc (Germany)
      Specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon

What are the dangers of impacted wisdom tooth?

Impacted wisdom teeth may damage or crowd neighboring teeth, get decayed, or become infected. If left in the mouth, they can lead to infection, gum disease, and formation of cysts.

Also, due to their location in the mouth or the way they’ve erupted, they are difficult to clean, often trapping food particles between them and the adjacent molars. This is a common cause of gum disease.

Step-by-step process of wisdom tooth extraction

      Consultation

Your oral surgeon will discuss your medical history with you and assess your wisdom tooth. X-rays will be taken to evaluate its position and angle of eruption, ensuring the surgery proceeds without complications.

      Wisdom Tooth Extraction Plan

Based on the assessment, the surgeon will create a personalized plan outlining the technique (simple or surgical) for each tooth, discussing any potential risks based on their position, and address your anesthesia options (local anesthesia, oral sedation, or general anesthesia).

      Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Before the procedure begins, you will receive anesthesia. Then, the tooth is extracted, either simply or surgically. In most cases, multiple wisdom teeth extractions are can be done in a single appointment.

      Follow-Up

After the extraction, follow-up visits with your surgeon are important. These allow them to monitor your healing process, address any questions or concerns you might have, and ensure you heal smoothly.

What to Expect After Wisdom Tooth Extraction

After extraction, a blood clot forms in the socket and needs to be protected — especially in the first 24 hours. Dislodging it can lead to dry socket, a painful but preventable complication.

First 24 hours Avoid forceful rinsing, spitting, or using a straw. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling, but stop after 24 hours. You can gently resume brushing that evening, taking care near the surgical site.

First few days Stick to soft, cold or room-temperature foods — mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, pasta. Chew on the opposite side. Avoid smoking for at least 5 days, strenuous exercise, and mixing alcohol with any prescribed medications.

Most patients heal comfortably and can resume normal activities within a couple of days. Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon will provide personalised aftercare instructions and is available if you have any concerns.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Most wisdom teeth are removed in under 15 minutes. In cases where multiple teeth are extracted surgically in one sitting, the procedure can take between 30 to 40 minutes in total.

Some discomfort in the days following surgery is normal. Your surgeon will prescribe appropriate pain relief and provide aftercare instructions to keep you comfortable. Most patients find the experience far more manageable than they expected.

Common signs include pain or pressure at the back of the jaw, swelling around the gums, difficulty opening the mouth fully, or a tooth that has only partially broken through the gum. An X-ray is the only way to confirm impaction — your surgeon will assess this during your consultation.

Not necessarily. Most extractions are carried out under local anaesthesia, meaning you're awake but completely numb. For patients who are anxious or require more complex surgery, oral sedation or general anaesthesia are also available at SameDay Dental Clinic.

Yes. In many cases, our surgeons remove all four wisdom teeth in a single appointment, saving you time and reducing the number of recovery periods you need to go through.
