      Not at all. Braces are not just for children or teenagers. Orthodontic treatment can be suitable at almost any age, as long as your teeth, gums, and supporting bone are healthy. At SameDay Dental Clinic, we see many adult patients who want to improve their smile.

      The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this stage, the first permanent molars and incisors have usually emerged, allowing the orthodontist to assess bite development and identify any issues that benefit from early intervention.

      The fitting appointment itself is not painful. Some soreness is normal in the first few days after fitting and after each adjustment, as the teeth begin to move. This typically settles within 3 to 5 days and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

      Treatment length varies by case. Mild alignment issues may be resolved in 6 to 12 months. More complex cases typically take 18 to 24 months. Your orthodontist will give you a realistic timeline at your initial consultation.

      Yes. Orthodontic treatment does not replace routine dental care. You should continue to see your dentist for check-ups and cleaning throughout your orthodontic treatment. Keeping your teeth clean is especially important while wearing fixed appliances.
