If your teeth look straight, does that mean everything is working as it should? The answer is, not always.
A smile can appear perfectly aligned at first glance, especially the front teeth, but orthodontics is not limited to what is visible. I often see patients with straight anterior teeth who still have bite discrepancies.
The back teeth may not fit properly. There may be a deep bite, a cross bite, or uneven force distribution that isn't obvious in the photos. In some cases, the jaws are not ideally positioned relative to each other, even though the smile looks good. Over time, this can contribute to excessive wear, shifting, or functional imbalance.
A smile can look straight, but straight teeth alone don't always mean the bite is healthy. This is why a proper orthodontic evaluation looks beyond aesthetics. We assess:
- how the teeth fit together
- how the jaws relate
- whether the system is functioning efficiently.
If you've been feeling that something is off even though your teeth look straight, perhaps this is the time to get it evaluated. Come visit us at SameDay Dental Clinic for a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation.
